Why are we drawn to the beach? - An introduction to biophilia

This week we are going to delve into the realm of Biophilia.

What is Biophillia you ask?

We have often talked about exercise improves our mental and, more generally, how you feel.

Well, what about our environment?

Do you notice how some places just make you feel…well…good?

Perhaps the beach? Perhaps the forest? Perhaps that cool room filled with nice wooden furniture?

Have you ever stopped to think about why that it?

Well it is biophilia that examines this.

Over the next week we will be looking at the book ‘Biophilia’ by Sally Coulthard as she explores biophilia.

This is not a field in which I have any formal training but it is definitely something that appeal and interests me. Especially the question “How can we use our environment to help us to feel good?”

Why are we drawn to the beach?

Why do we like to tell stories around the fire?

How can we bring nature back into our lives?

These are the questions, I hope we can explore together over the next few weeks.
