Mobility vs Flexibility. What’s the Difference?

A lot of people use the terms ‘flexibility’ and ‘mobility’ interchangeably.

However, they are not exactly the same thing.

You can actually be very flexible but not very mobile at all.

Flexibility

Flexibility is the ability of a muscle to TEMPORARILY stretch.

Much like a rubber band.

Mobility

Mobility, however, is the ability of a joint to move through its range of motion.

Our shoulders, for example, should be able to move in three planes of motion. However, often in our daily lives we only move our hands in front of us (i.e. Zombie arms). Thus, many of us lack shoulder mobility,

Essentially, flexibility is the ability to of a muscle to stretch. Mobility is the ability of a joint to move.
