Pelvic Tilt - A great dance move but also a source of back pain
The next few week at Tight Muscle Tuesday, we will be looking at the muscles that support our pelvis.
What is the Pelvis?
The pelvis is a basin-shaped group of bones that connects the back and legs. It consists of paired hip bones which connect at the front and back. Each is made up of three bones,
The ilium,
The ischium, and
The pubis.[i]
When the muscles that support our pelvis are tight, it can cause the pelvis to tilt. This tilt can be
Anterior (forward),
Posterior (backward), or
Lateral (sideways).[iv]
Pelvic tilt is can lead to lack of
Stability,
Mobility,
Posture, and
Motor control.[v]
Pelvic tilt can also lead to back pain.
Because the pelvic connected to the hips and spin, when it tilts it affects the position of your spine.[vi]
Over the coming weeks we will look at each type of pelvis tilt and examine what tight muscles cause them and how we can help.
